Support Teams, Inc. (CST) is a non-profit organization which provides assistance dogs to persons with disabilities other than blindness.
Over the past twelve years, CST has teamed dogs with disabled individuals on our waiting list. These dogs give independence, companionship and unconditional love to these individuals. An added plus is the reduction in attendant hours, which are sometimes paid for by state agencies as well as private insurance.Several of these "Teams" are pursuing more active, productive lives. Many individuals are going on to further their education, or maybe just drawing the strength needed to leave home and venture out into the communities in which they live. These dogs serve as "ice-breakers"... drawing the able bodied community to the disabled community. They foster understandingand appreciation for who we are, what we can achieve, and contribute. All this by simply seeing a kind, gentle, weltrained dog! These cannines are incredible! We have a dog in Oregon which senses a siezure 20 minutes before it happens. We neverimagined this wouldas the dog was placed as a Service Dog to perform tasks for this client. Many of our dogs offer emotional support to individuals who otherwise could not interact with other people. Some of our clientshave been able to return to work with their dog resulting in a more productive and fulfilling life for them. Some disabled individuals are not able to leave their homes. Lonliness and depression can become a serious problem for them. The addition of a "Social Dog" can help tremendously, as well as offer the individual much needed skills should they require them. Most importantly, these dogs love unconditionally. This program is a work of love for all of those involved. We We believe we are changing the way the world "can" look at disabilities, while adding mobility, love, and independence... one dog at a time.Won't you pleasesupport CST in this effort?
